It's been quiet around here lately so I thought I'd just ask what everyone thinks of the latest actors to be signed up for BD.

(See the guy they have to play Amun in BD? Hot stuff :P )
Personally I was a little disappointed with the casting of Alistair. He was a favourite character of mine and I had always imagined him a bit older, but they went with the young totty again. That said Joe Anderson I loved in Becoming Jane.

Cast Announced

Amazonian Coven
Senna – Tracey Heggins

Zafrina – Judi Shekoni

Egyptian Coven
Benjamin – Rami Malek

Tia – Angela Sarafyan
Amun - Omar Metwally
Kebi - Andrea Gabriel

Romanian Coven

Vladimir – Noel Fisher
Stefan – Guri Weinberg

Alistair - Joe Anderson

Irish Coven
Maggie – Marlane Barnes
Siobhan – Lisa Howard
Liam – Patrick Brennan

American Covens/Nomads
Garrett – Lee Pace
Mary – Toni Trucks
Randall – Bill Tangradi
Peter – Erik Odom
Charlotte – Valorie Curry

Nothing about the Volturi wives being cast. Granted it's early days but I'm thinking that perhaps they won't cast for those roles at all and will probably leave it up to extras.

As a follow on from a discussion we were having about the age of Aro and Didyme. What's peoples theories on this?

With regards canon we only know that Aro changed his sister 15 years after he himself became a vampire.
Now comes the guess work. If we are taking Aro's age as 25 and Didyme as 18 when she was turned, that means she was 3 years old when Aro became a vampire. This then gives 22 years in age difference.
22 years gap for their mother to have children. Is that at all probable for the era? I mean what is the average life expectancy for Etruscans, especially women of child-bearing age? (anyone know) It would actually be more likely they had siblings, just none to reach adulthood.

Anyway I'm just curious what others think about it all.

edit: found this and found it interesting
it has been estimated that the average life expectancy of an Etruscan, whether a man or a woman, was about forty years.  It can also be noted that the average height of a man was five feet, four and a half inches, and for a woman it was five feet, one inch.

I finally got around to reading the fan junket thing that happened with Meyers in June. (Well when I said 'read', I opened the page and did a search for the name Aro, lol)

Well and one thing, Aro in particular, the really really darkest thing for me about him is that he can honestly love someone and still kill them if it gets in his way; like his sister who he honestly loved, who was like the most important person in his world, but she got in the way of his ambition and he could kill her and grieve her but grieve over what he had done but still do it because that was okay to him in his world. And when you can do that, when you can cross that line—shivers

I found that very interesting.

Regarding Jane and Aro:

I mean, Aro is very controlling.  He is the pinnacle and he has all the power and so he calls the shots but in this specific case knowing with Alice he has to deviate from the pattern and so he let Jane make her…You know he said, “Go out.” And not even specifically about them because Alice could see that, you know just “Jane, I think that you are very much fantastic and I want you to go out and take care of things in the world that need to be taken care of on your own.  I think you can make your own decisions.”  And Jane is like: “Ah, I know what this is about.”  And so she goes out there and she knows it’s her mission.  She knows it’s about the Cullens.  She knows that she has to effect some kind of progress there, but how to do it.  So yeah that’s Jane.  You could write a story about Jane through [that] month of frustration and all the stuff she was trying to do and not screwing up so that when she came home Aro didn’t decide “maybe I don’t need someone who can burn people

Well think about it, Aro this whole time…Aro is the one person of significance in her life, besides Alec, but Aro is the one that she always wants to be the favorite of.

Matt: Like the new baby.

SM: Yeah.  Well but I mean they’ve had a relationship for years.  She is his prize.  She is his jewel.  He is unstoppable because of her.  Alec obviously is a big part in that too but there’s a very strong relationship there and now he’s found a shinier jewel than her, and if she could kill Alice she’d do it in a heartbeat.  But she knows that that would, I mean she’d be in real trouble then.  So she hates Alice .  Bella’s just annoying, someone who doesn’t cringe in pain?  How dare she!  But Alice —

SM: Alice is a problem for her, a big problem.  You know that when it came down to the fight if… Jane would’ve been hopeful that Alice would’ve gone out.  And you know, how frustrating Aro gets there and Alice isn’t there and it’s like: “Oh crap.”  And Jane’s sitting there like: “She’s not gonna die?”  And Aro knows exactly how she feels and he’s able to play that to his benefit ‘cause he’s sick!

SM: He is sick, but lovely, and Michael Sheen…You know I—

And I just thought I'd add this in because I so agree with what I have bolded.

SM: And I hate that Jamie Campbell Bower did not get as many lines he had originally.

SM: ‘Cause he is chilling...He actually tried out for Demetri...And he was too scary for Demetri, we were watching it...Jamie was chilling and then his face takes the makeup like nobody else, he has no pores!  His face is perfect.  And he looked, you know he got in the makeup and every line he delivered had so much weight and you’re just like: “More.  More please.”  Caius needs a story.  We need to see more of it.  A whole thing with him and Michael Sheen just let’s go!  Well Marcus too"

I've just been messing around, making some more icons (different ones of the wives - which I will put in my other icon post by use of the glorious 'edit' button) and thinking the my girlie crush Felicity Jones would make a good Didyme I came across this picture from the film, Cheri, with Rupert Friend.
Decided to caption it as it just instantly made me think of Aro giving his sister away at the alter (totally non-factual, but screw history, I'm being creative here :P)

As idylchild  so wisely thought - it would be much easier to keep track of who's who when we are doing the group fiction if we had icons for each character. I just did this batch just now. There isn't much in the way of varying pictures of the Volturi online so I did try my best :)

You're more than welcome to create your own, or if you want me to try again, just shout.

For characters who've not yet been cast I just went with people who I imagine them like.

I know we've discussed Aro's gift before, but I'm curious about it in a different way. Before we discussed what it would be about a human Aro that could enable him to see everyones thoughts with touch, as apposed to what Edward can do.

But what I am wondering now is how exactly do you think Aro's gift works? Is it one simple touch and he sees every thought. Or does he have to hold on to someone to see all - like the longer he touches your skin the more of your memories he sees?
Also, in what way would it work? Is it all instantly from your first memories to your last, or do you think it starts from your last thought and works its way back?

I know it's technically not Aro but I love Michael in this. Can you imagine Aro in this situation? He would rip his limbs off, not push him in the pool :)

Since it's gone real quiet around here I just thought i'd throw this out for a bit of fun.

What do you think would happen if Aro and Caius found themselves in a room with Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange? What would aul Voldy make of the Volturi?
